FAQ

What is a pathology lab?
Pathology is the study of diseases. When your doctor finds a part of your body that may be diseased, he or she naturally wants to get a complete and accurate picture of just what is going on. Certain doctors called pathologists specialize in preparing, observing and diagnosing small amounts of your tissue that hold the needed answers. The process is pretty complicated and requires numerous kinds of specialized equipment---things your doctor would not have on hand (or probably have room for). A pathology lab contains this accurate and expensive equipment.

Why is it so important?
The importance of a lab may be obvious to you based on the above: specialized doctors and equipment are necessary to make life-saving decisions “in time”.

Who decides which pathology lab will evaluate the tissue samples from my body?
Typically, your doctor, his office manager, an insurance company or even the hospital he works with may decide which lab will be responsible for evaluating your skin or internal biopsy. While most labs are adequate and our government has safeguards in place, mistakes do sometimes occur .Many patients prefer to maximize the chances that every aspect of their medical care---including accurate and speedy diagnosis---is the best available. We believe Biopsy Diagnostics is the best.

Are there really any significant differences in these labs?
YES
Many labs don’t require that all pathologists be Board Certified. That means they have received additional training and taken exams to test their expertise. Our pathologist, Dr. Peter White, is Board Certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology as well as Board Certified in Dermatopathology. Just like any other type of schooling or training, some is better than others. Dr. White attended Johns Hopkins University Medical School and completed his residency at Yale University. He also completed fellowships at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and Duke University, where he later taught in the School of Medicine. Labs vary greatly in size and their ability to pay attention to the needs of the individual patient and doctor. Many U.S. labs are very large and employ many doctors but seem unable to deliver top-notch service to individual clients. Biopsy Diagnostics is ALL about the needs of the patient first and foremost. We care that you get “the right diagnosis, right away. ”You are not a number to us and delivering your results just as quickly as we accurately can to cut your worry time motivates us day in and day out.

Why can’t I decide?
Of course, you can. Often, we are simply not aware there’s a choice to be made that someone else is making for us. You do have options. Make the best possible choice for your health. Tell your doctor you choose Biopsy Diagnostics, PC.
